#231 - beware the dolphins

they may yet take over the world...

how freaky was that right? i don't know if it's scarier that they can do that, that they can learn to do that, or that the dolphins that can do it do not want the dolphins that can't do it to learn how to do it. it's like the star-bellied sneetches (who had bellies with stars) and the plain-bellied sneetches (who had none upon thars).

segue!

last friday i went on a whale watching sunset boat tour. it was a little awkward because it was with a bunch of people from work, who i would normally not every choose to associate with outside of work (mostly because it would remind me of being at work), but it was kinda cool. at least when you're on a boat on a whale watching tour the 1000-yard stare is socially acceptable (either you're looking for whales or you're staring at the horizon trying not to get seasick). i took my dramamine an hour before the boat ride but i was still feeling queasy, i think me and boats are a no-mix-y kind of thing. i've never felt completely comfortable on a boat (also, i don't like being so far away from land, the most i'll feel good about is a surfboard's paddle away from shore, beyond that i get a little creeped out). the whole way i was on the edge of being sick, but never actually crossed the line so it's a good thing i took that dramamine. i think maybe 20-25% of the people on the boat (and there were like 25 people) ended up getting seasick, badly. i only saw a couple of whales far out on the horizon (like at a distance that i might see them from shore normally) but that's okay, it was a cool ride out and a nice view of the whole north shore from past waimea on one side to mokuleia on the other, and the weather was nice (although it got freezing cold once the sun started to set, i actually caught a cold from being too wet and chilly), much calmer seas than when i went for that shark cage tour. i didn't get too many great shots of the scenery (i think i need a new camera, i've been holding out for canon to come out with an underwater like olympus has, and the features keep getting better and better... i'll get one soon), but i got a couple of cool sunset pics, all in all, pretty cool, and a great way to start spring break!
