#232 - itunes sell-out week

yeah, let's skip the lame pretense of "theme week" and just do commercial plugs right? hey everyone, go out and spend money on itunes! haha, although, i can't complain because the rest of the themes have been excrutiatingly lame and now at least the contestants can sing some current songs, y'know, like the stuff the audience might actually listen to? so here we go:

1. anoop desai - ouch. well, props to him for picking a pretty new song, definately the type of song that he might put to a records, but yikes, a big fat mess. i didn't even recognize the song until the background singers got to the chorus, and then i could tell what song it was. gotta laugh and him trying act all hard too right? maybe just smile or something, you look ridiculous trying to do the tough guy act. didn't sing so great... looks like anoop is in trouble again, NO VOTE.

2. megan joy - what happened to her last name? they never show it or mention it anymore? what megan? you too good for the corkreys? anyway, i actually thought this would be a good song for her... WRONG! where the heck does that pronunciation come from? she sounds perfectly normal when she's talking. also, two times she said "i wanna give you SAM good, good loving" and two other times she she said "i wanna give you SOME good, good loving." so what the heck is going on there? she looks so disinterested singing even... NO VOTE!

3. danny gokey - i didn't know this song. i thought it was okay. i don't like songs that are too repetitive, either in lyrics or in melody, so i didn't care for it too much. he sang the first part okay, but then i think it got too high for him at the end and there were some bum notes, so not to great... NO VOTE.

ps - who's dressing them tonight? yikes.

4. allison iraheta - great song, but not a great song for ANYONE (besides gwen stefani) to sing. i liked some of the improvisations she took at the end of the song (and her high notes are great), but the meat of the song i didn't like so much. still, i really like her, and she totally looks just like miss piggy, so... VOTE.

5. scott macintyre - does anyone else get the feeling that they're totally exploiting this guy because he can't see what they're doing to him? i mean, just look at his hair. ha, still, i laugh. i also laugh because i thought he did GREAT this week. so he's not a fantastic singer, the whole performance with just him and piano was superb i think. why shouldn't he be doing this every week? if that's what you do good, then why not do it every time? also, each week paula HAS to say something about him being blind doesn't she? haha. definately... VOTE!

6. matt giraud - ooh, again, props for picking a new song, but bad choice i think. and also, man he didn't sing very well at all. maybe it was all the audience around him but his voice was way off i think. in trouble again... NO VOTE.

7. lil rounds - hard song to sing... and she didn't very well. i mean, she carried the tune for sure, but that's a kind of song you gotta belt through the notes and she sang just up to the notes y'know? i thought she would be the one to benefit most from the theme this week, but man did she NOT take advantage of that. she way needs to be singing more r&b types songs, she's got that sting to her voice, straight power songs like the ones she's been picking really don't sound good on her at all... NO VOTE.

8. adam lambert - thank you for not wearing make-up. NO thank you for picking "play that funky music white boy." barf to the rest, so lame. although... and i am going to offer one concession right now just because at least he (unlike all the other contestants) comes out each week with something worth talking about (either good or bad... mostly bad... pretty much all bad)... i really would like to hear him sing something like "crying" by aerosmith and see how that comes out, then maybe i can make a real decision about whether or not i could see him as a radio artist (and not on some very fruity broadway show). but for now... NO VOTE!

9. kris allen - okay, now this i like. first of all, i absolutely HATE this song, but his performance i thought was GREAT! reminds me very much of some of the earlier, acoustic jason mraz-type of stuff (before he started being constantly high and creepy-looking) y'know, like his version of "summer breeze" (the live version) or "hey love." great arrangement, cool vocals, excellent, but he's gotta get rid of that side-mouth singing thing y'know?... VOTE.

wow, i only voted for three people, and one was a "save her" vote. so all in all, pretty disappointed with some of the choices this week, i mean, when else are they gonna get the opportunity to sing current songs? and then most of them pick oldies and crappies? junk. still, this is the first week that i'm considering actually buying songs on itunes (maybe scott's or kris', but i'll have to give them a preview listen first).

who do i think is out? i think that anoop, matt, and megan will be in the bottom 3, and i hope that megan finally gets out. but, again, i doubt that'll happen!

also, yay, david cook on tomorrow, some real american idol talent. boo, lady gaga (damn do i hate that name!).

#231 - beware the dolphins

they may yet take over the world...

how freaky was that right? i don't know if it's scarier that they can do that, that they can learn to do that, or that the dolphins that can do it do not want the dolphins that can't do it to learn how to do it. it's like the star-bellied sneetches (who had bellies with stars) and the plain-bellied sneetches (who had none upon thars).

segue!

last friday i went on a whale watching sunset boat tour. it was a little awkward because it was with a bunch of people from work, who i would normally not every choose to associate with outside of work (mostly because it would remind me of being at work), but it was kinda cool. at least when you're on a boat on a whale watching tour the 1000-yard stare is socially acceptable (either you're looking for whales or you're staring at the horizon trying not to get seasick). i took my dramamine an hour before the boat ride but i was still feeling queasy, i think me and boats are a no-mix-y kind of thing. i've never felt completely comfortable on a boat (also, i don't like being so far away from land, the most i'll feel good about is a surfboard's paddle away from shore, beyond that i get a little creeped out). the whole way i was on the edge of being sick, but never actually crossed the line so it's a good thing i took that dramamine. i think maybe 20-25% of the people on the boat (and there were like 25 people) ended up getting seasick, badly. i only saw a couple of whales far out on the horizon (like at a distance that i might see them from shore normally) but that's okay, it was a cool ride out and a nice view of the whole north shore from past waimea on one side to mokuleia on the other, and the weather was nice (although it got freezing cold once the sun started to set, i actually caught a cold from being too wet and chilly), much calmer seas than when i went for that shark cage tour. i didn't get too many great shots of the scenery (i think i need a new camera, i've been holding out for canon to come out with an underwater like olympus has, and the features keep getting better and better... i'll get one soon), but i got a couple of cool sunset pics, all in all, pretty cool, and a great way to start spring break!

#230 - motown week

thank you simon cowell! haha!

whoops, kinda fell behind on my blogging, i've actually done a lot of cool stuff during this past week and i meant to post, but i've kept myself busy (which is a good thing) with said cool stuff so i'll have to postpone it 'til later (maybe tomorrow, since the surf will be too big and it's my off-workout day and it's a holiday).

anyway, here's tonight's idol post: motown week, i don't really have a feeling either way about motown, but after tonight i'm gonna lean towards not liking it so much. is it just me or are the contestants picking the most obvious (and crappy) songs from each theme this year? here's what i mean:

1. matt giraud - let's get it on? really? yikes. well, surprisingly, i actually thought he did really good, he's moving up my list of favorites. plus, i really like people who can play piano and sing. VOTE.

2. kris allen - crap song. but there's something very likeable about his voice, it's very clear y'know? so i still like him, but if he's gonna keep picking songs like this then his stock drops. still... VOTE.

3. scott macintyre - another crap song, i thought it was gonna be kinda cool though at the beginning with him playing all slow... but then he went fast and it all fell apart for me. i just want to be able to sing a little better y'know? like one or two steps up of better singing would make him really good, now he's just kinda holding on and struggling. still, i like him at the piano. VOTE.

4. megan joy corkrey - where does her accent go when she talks? it disappears! haha, anyway, i'm not hating on her so much this week, because she just plain flubbed it. good song, but bad choice for her. she didn't do the washing machine dance SO much this time and her pronunciation of the lyrics weren't so weird. she could be fine without all that weirdness, but she had a bad night for sure... NO VOTE.

5. anoop desai - another good performance by anoop (good, not great). although he did look kinda bored or depressed while he was singing... he should not take randy's advice though (he told anoop to do something upbeat next week), everytime a contestant listens to that kind of advice they bomb because of it. VOTE.

6. michael sarver - EPIC FAIL! he just can't cut it anymore. also, i don't like it when they go and grab people's hands in the audience, lame. NO VOTE.

7. lil rounds - ouch. man she shouted the whole thing. but then when i heard the judges' comments, she actually did make it kind of like the old motown sound, they kinda sounded like that, radio blasting out of tiny speakers y'know? but, NO VOTE.

8. adam lambert - see? look how normal he can look. well, y'know, not "normal" cause he's still got some weirdness going on there, but not like emo-space-cadet-egyptian like last week. anyway, i kinda liked the song, but not his girly-high-pitched singing of it (although i do have to admit that he sang it well). but, this is a performance i can definately tolerate, not like last week. that being said, NO VOTE!

9. danny gokey - horrid horrid song! ugh, i hated it! but i'm putting him in the same category as kris, both of them have very likeable qualities to their voices, kris' being very clear and danny's with a little bit of gruff to it, but i don't like the choices that those two are making with their performances. i'm going to take a stand on that point and NO VOTE.

10. allison iraheta - i like this girl very much. great song to pick and she sang very well. of course, VOTE!

so this week i think that megan, michael, and either scott or lil can be in the bottom three... as long as michael goes home, enough of him already. but y'know what, other than him i can see merit for keeping everyone else in (even adam and, to a lesser extent, megan), so i guess they do have some talent eh?

shall we update my top 10?

1. matt giraud
2. allison iraheta
3. kris allen
4. danny gokey
5. anoop desai
6. scott macintyre
7. lil rounds
8. adam lambert
9. megan joy corkrey
10. michael sarver

ps - i had a great spring break day today, a little bit of everything, went to work for a little bit in the morning, went to workout in a relatively uncrowded 24 hr, got myself a steak & shrimp plate from foodland, went surfing (i tried yesterday, but damn it was freezing cold! the wind was howling and being wet and windy and no sun at chun's = shivering! i think i caught another mini-cold from that, but today the sun was high in the sky so i took a risk and went to ali'i, my favorite spot, because from tomorrow the surf's gonna be too big for me and i definately need to get some surfing in this spring break), it was cold, but not as windy as yesterday and the sets were nice a clean so i had a good time and caught some nice rides, played volleyball, then had dinner at kristen's with american idol. wow, i should be tired after that, i'm gonna sleep in tomorrow too since it'll be too big up north for surfing and it's my off-workout day. i'm gonna chill, go to yoga at night, it'll be great.

#229 - "we can move it closer"

still the best line. i'm still laughing about it today, plus he said it really funny-ly too. also, it reinforces the fact that paula is a dumbass (even when she CAN complete a sentence).

anyway, i'm writing this post today for two reasons:

1. i talked to my mom and she LOVED both adam's performance and megan's! parents. sheesh.

2. i finally realized why i've got such an adversarial outlook on this season's idol. they're all sell-outs! man, after every judge's comment they're like "if america keeps me around, i'll change, tell me where to jump and how high." and that has resulted in everyone being completely dull and boring! all that unique-ness and originality that the judges rave about get completely squashed because these contestants totally give in to whatever the producers want, and with fervor!

and with that being said (and after watching the show again on dvr before the results show tonight)... maybe there is a place for adam lambert. granted, it will be a place that is preferrably very very far away from his disgusting facial expressions, ultra-tight pants, and man-make-up... and hopefully also not in high-definition television. i mean, if you don't watch him sing, and if you imagine that a girl is singing instead of a "guy," and if you pretend that he's singing the backgrond music to the blair witch project II: escape from a super-gay screening of the rocky horror picture show then maybe there might be something to it.

there is, however, NOTHING redeeming in megan's performances. well, let me take that back, there is humor in it. a lot of humor. a ton of humor. because i can't seem to get through a single one of her performances without busting up laughing.

and so, in summary, if tatiana could not be in the top 13, then i guess these two will have to do huh? haha.

okay, watching the show now... wow, they are totally NOT singing that group song. how obvious can you get? and how come the piano kept playing when scott stood up? geez, even the group numbers last year were SO much better. what, do they have different behind the scenes people this year?

hey that girl in the "never before seen audition," was that girl caught in the middle of that drama trio on group day in hollywood. i think they should've put her onto the wildcard show for sure. oh well, too bad, so sad.

how is scott chasing after the car in that commercial?

boo hoo michael, why don't you go home then? no one will miss you, don't worry. while you're at it, tell your bratty kid to quit her whining and get over it.

quit asking paula questions that she can't possibly answer.

hey i think i know why i like scott so much, he's kinda simple... y'know? like one of my clients right? i mean, he doesn't know how he looks when he reacts to good news, but it's kinda like how my kids react y'know? not the really low kids, maybe the speech-only kids.

"horrific, indulgent rubbish." i couldn't have said it better myself.

now, i usually don't like spoilers or even trying to guess at things that are supposed to be unknowable, but damn, dialidol.com is amazingly accurate!

oh good, allison's safe, either of the other two can go home quickly. don't save either of them, please.

that filet-o-fish commercial is starting to invade my dreams with it's infuriatingly catchy song... but then it goes into that horrid talk-singing and i don't like that at all. but the beards are pretty awesome.

carrie underwood is awesome. and randy travis looks like he's going into seizures when he's singing.

why are they so in love with alexis?

DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT! DON'T USE IT!

why are they discussing DURING the song? they should let her sing, then have a commercial break, then come back and decide.

hey, y'know even though i didn't want her to be saved... that was kinda sad, huh.

hey y'know i think she was kinda cute way back in her first audition... then she got skanky. kara totally wants to do her.

and dialidol.com was right again. huh. okay, on to next week!

#228 - country week

man, country week sucks, each time. maybe it's because i don't recognize a lot of the songs, or maybe because the songs themselves are junk. but man, two absolutely horrific performances (without tatiana involved), a ton of back-talk from the contestants, an ever-getting-more-over-the-moon-stoned paula by the minute, and absolute ridiculousness from all the judges and at least it made for a damn interesting show.

just a quick post because i just got back from dinner and i need sleep (man, i've really been trying to get more sleep but damn is it hard), but maybe i'll add more later... so here we go!

1. michael sarver - sucked. something about his brow kinda makes him look looney right? like, insane-looney y'know? maybe it's because his eyes are kinda far apart, i dunno, he just kinda looks like a vampire, a buffy-kind of vampire y'know with the bumpies? anyway, crap. no vote.

2. allison iraheta - i didn't like the song. i didn't really care for the way she sang it, but i still like her and i think she's got a great voice (not for this, but for other things) so i will still vote for her.

3. kris allen - okay, he may be slipping down the list of my top guys, but i still like this guy, and i thought this was a pretty great performance for him (notice i said "for him"), a little bit slow and dull, but good. and so i will vote for him as well.

4. lil rounds - good singer, fine song, predictable result. i'm not impressed enough to vote... sorry. but, didn't you love when simon called her "little?"

5. adam lambert - holy. crap. ......................................................... maybe if i don't write anything about it my brain will be tricked into forgetting it ever happened and then i won't wake up terrified in the middle of the night dreaming about burning pyramids and cross-dressers playing sitars that grow tongues and turn into snakes. like y'know when homer ate those guatemalan insanity peppers?

but, i will comment on the state of the judges. kara gave me hope at the beginning of her commentary with all the strangeness talk... but then she liked it? wtf? and paula is retarded so whatever. simon, thankfully has some sense (*line of the night "what the hell was that?"). but then randy goes and screws it all up by praising him? what is going on?

6. scott macintyre - okay, i think he's reached his vocal limit huh? sure, it'd be kinda cool to watch this guy play somewhere cause he's all blind and plays the piano very well, but there only so much farther he can go here really, he's just not that good a singer, i wish he was better, but too bad. no vote this time.

*no THIS was the line of the night:
paula: the piano might be a bit of a crutch now and that it separates you from the audience and i think that people need to see you as a showman as well
scott: we can move it closer

actually... for that line i WILL vote for him! ha!

7. alexis grace - man for some reason i just really do NOT like this girl. and i actually knew and liked this song (brooke white sang it last year and i really liked her performance of it), but i hated her performance. no vote!

8. danny gokey - now carrie underwood is one country artist that i do like. and while this version of her song wasn't that great, there's something very likeable about each of danny's performances. and this one wasn't even that good vocally, but i still liked it. huh. so i will vote for him.

9. anoop desai - again, something just likeable about his performances. and he sang well this time too, so i will vote for him also.

10. megan joy corkrey - EPIC FAIL! what the crap are the judges talking about?! holy crap that was awful, and i don't know how she managed to stick in that stupid washing machine dance into this song but it sucked! why do the judges like her so much? it was horrid! everything from her ridiculously pronounced words ("i go WAAking, in the MUUNlight") to her yoyo boobs it was horrible. NO VOTE!

11. matt giraud - this guy is moving up my top guys list for sure. great performance i thought, definately vote!

this week i think that michael, alexis, and megan should be in the bottom 3. the only reason why i'm keeping adam out of the bottom 3 is because, wtf, at least it makes things interesting (if not absolutely terrifying). but, is that who WILL be in the bottom 3? yeah right, since when does american listen to me (although they will once i am a nielsen company tv research home!)? so who do i think WILL get out? beats me, man, this season i have no idea...

#227 - at long last, the world may come to realize the brilliance that is my opinion!

and so it has finally happened. may my genius be unveiled and may the world revel in the all-inspiring light that comes from the mind of me. yes, that is right, i am now officially a nielsen company tv research home!

and on with dollhouse!

prepare yourself for 8 more seasons of terminator!

no more will the "firefly"s of the world suffer their creative writing at the hands of network executive producers... they will florish and prosper!

set your dvrs for the office and 30 rock five days a week!

yes, my grace falls upon those who produce good television, but beware you, oh you who pay homage to bad writing, who align yourselves with fake laugh tracks and you who drag out storylines until they are beyond repair. for as much as my good will shall nourish those shows with fantastic writing and hot girls so much more shall my wrath rend asunder those who idolize over-dramatic plot twists!

woe to you, heroes, for your infuriating "coincidences" and never dying characters.

alas, lost, thou hast forfeit my trust with your endless "we don't have time to explain, just trust me!"

prepare ye, "er" and "csi" for most swift retribution for your commercials fraught with "the one episode you don't want to miss!" and "the last ten minutes will shock you!"

as sure as the nielsen company sends me "a large blue and white envelope" in "a few days," so soon shall you fall from the tv guide listings in flames, mwahahahaha!

so can you tell i'm weirdly excited about taking a few surveys? well, i figure i'm in the right demographic right? the money-to-burn demographic? male, 21-30, single, employed? people should be asking for my opinion more often right? well, i think so at least. anyway, not like my one survey is gonna make such a huge difference, but at least i can do something to save my favorite (yet somehow not very popular) shows... well, something other than just posting about it here on this blog that like 5 people read right? haha.

#226 - michael jackson show

welcome to bizzaro-world! i skipped the weekly american idol post (because i was watching it at kristen's house) and kathleen posted instead! what is going on?! haha, well, i actually wasn't going to post, but after reading the beginning of kathleen's post I had to get my two cents in right?

so, i'm about to watch the results show, but before i do let's see if i can get a little of my last night's comments in... but first... three things:

1. paula is on crack and should shut the hell up
2. randy also needs to shut the hell up and stop boo-ing simon (he's the only one that does it anymore, simon gets the biggest cheers of out of the 4 of them)
3. just let paula fall backwards in her chair and scoot kara over to replace her (finally) and then we'll be all square

so, here we go:

1. lil rounds - of course everyone's gonna pick this generic song. but even though i thought she sang the notes well, didn't it sound slow? like she was slightly holding off a little bit, it made the whole thing sound really forced, strained. i didn't like it, but i think she should make it to the later rounds at least. anyway, no vote.

2. scott macintyre - well, whaddyaknow? the guys starts to grow on you eh? i kinda liked his little piano playing song. i have no idea what the song was, but it was good for him (notice i said "for him," let's not get carried away). he might be okay after all (plus, tonight we'll get to see him to the group dance and count how many times he almost falls off the stage, ha). anyway, i'll vote for him.

3. danny gokey - p.y.t.? really? what a horrible horrible song! haha, but y'know what, in his own dorky way it was pretty good. fun to watch definately and so i will vote for him.

4. michael sarver - why the crap would you pick the creepiest song in the entire world to sing on national television? eww... anyway, it was totally bland, he's totally bland. i'd put him in my bottom three or however many they have now. no vote.

5. jasmine murray - EPIC FAIL! i know why i don't care for her so much, she looks exactly like a client i have. this client has rhetts syndrome and only says "bababees" and "mamadoo" and has this creepy-ass smile plastered on her face all the freakin time. like in the horror movies you'd be washing your face in the bathroom and when you look up in the mirror there she is behind you wringing her hands together and smiling all eerie-like and scary. this jasmine girl has that same plastered-on smile, she has absolutely no expression, and she sings the same way, all one note. blah, she can definately go home already, no vote.

6. kris allen - aw man, what a crappy song to pick. although i think he salvaged it into a performance that i could actually listen to, cause i do like this guy. kara was right, he does have a jason mraz-y thing going for him that's pretty cool. horrible song, and horrible half-smile whilst singing, but i like him enough to vote for him.

7. allison iraheta - now this girl i like. didn't recognize the song but i thought she did the best of everyone tonight. totally vote.

8. anoop desai - aah anoop. beat it? really? sigh. well, it was fun... to laugh at. haha, oh man he's in trouble, but i think enough people like him to vote out of sympathy. i mean, just look, he's such a dork, total underdog right? we can relate yes? yes, he gets my vote.

9. jorge nunez - y'know this whole season i think has been about me wanting the not-so-great singers to be able to sing better (like anoop) and the already-have-a-good-voice-people wanting to tank (like tatiana and this guy). i mean, yeah he actually does some good things with his voice, but he's just so creepy. i'm sure he's probably a pretty nice guy, but such a junk performance. no vote.

10. megan joy corkrey - oh come on, what do the judges see really? that entire performance was just an excuse to wear a red dress and do her washing machine dance. seriously, does anyone else think she looks like she's going to the adult entertainment expo? you think the judges would like her if she didn't have that sleeve tattoo? no vote!

11. adam lambert - holy crap i'm scared. *mommy.* for real. now THIS is what would be in a horror movie. no vote!

12. matt giraud - yes i like him. still too much justin timberlake, but he picked a good song (who even remembered that michael jackson sang that song?) and he performed very well. he gets my vote.

13. alexis grace - oh i so called it that she would sing dirty diana. i actually really like that song but REALLY didn't like her singing it! who is voting for her? does anyone else think she looks like sharon osborne? no vote!

so what is this big judges' twist? you think they're gonna make it like so you think you can dance? take the bottom three, make them "sing for their lives" and then the judges decide who's out? that would suck. i like that it's completely and solely based on the voting. what would competition be without the upsets? there's nothing wrong with that, i like it even. what i don't like is keeping crappy people in forever, like sanjaya (or scott savol, remember him? american idol rewind is on season 4 now, haha). what if there were like a judge veto, like they could just oust someone anytime if they thought they're hanging on too long? haha, that probably wouldn't go over too well... oh well, we'll see.

so here's my new ranking so far:
1. danny gokey
2. allison iraheta
3. kris allen
4. matt giraud
5. lil rounds
6. anoop desai
7. scott macintyre
8. adam lambert
9. jorge nunez
10. michael sarver
11. megan joy corkrey
12. alexis grace
13. jasmine murray

wow, the girls are tanking this year huh? it's already 8 to 5 for the guys and they've got ALL the momentem too. really the only girls that stand a chance are lil and allison, and even then i think it'll be a stretch for them to withstand all the different good-singing guys.

okay so now i'm watching the results show.... ah, a judges' save. i like it. one for the entire season? interesting. good twist!

so jasmine's out? good. riddance. no save. man she's still completely expressionless huh? oh, okay, now she's crying, a little too late for that i think! okay, let's trim some more fluff...

kanye west? seriously? does the guy's head even fit coming through that american idol sign? wow, he sucks live too. can i vote him off?

WHOA! kelly clarkson got fat! haha, not that it's a big deal, i mean, i don't care too much when celebrities get fat (cause normal people get just as fat) because she still sings awesomely, but now it's kinda like watching Heart, y'know, big chicks belting power songs awesomely (except heart has an excuse cause they're old), but not being able to rock it out on stage (or even move around on stage?). i mean, yeah i guess it was like 8 years ago when she was on idol so i guess that's what happens when you get older huh? but she's not that old right? oh well, i'm glad that they're gonna bring back actual idol contestants, let's just hope that it's more kelly clarksons and no taylor hicks's y'know?

so anoop and jorge huh? good thing it was jorge, i don't think the judges would've saved anoop. by the way, this new twist gives tons of meaning to the "last song" y'know? like they've got one last chance to impress (except while simon and randy are discussing paula's up dancing like a stoned retard). good move idol.

okay, so next week hopefully another good theme, no more beatles and all that other old crap, let's keep it current.

ps - joe moore said on the news that the last contestant's voting number was not IDOLS13 because that number was an adult phone line! haha, so imagine all these little 13 year old girls calling in for alexis and accidentally charging their parents $4/min each time!

#225 - wildcards

wildcard show, here we go.. i'll be writing as i watch so all comments will be live! (and mostly before judges comments too, so you get my real gut reactions, lucky you huh?):

1. jesse langford - EPIC FAIL! i actually kinda liked her initial performance (bette davis eyes), but this one was absolutely horrid. she can't sing those low notes at all and she should've totally stayed away from that. she looked pretty confident and i think if she could've sang it two levels better it could have been a pretty good performance, but i didn't like it. by the way... i wonder who the judges originally had in her spot until that "last minute change" they talked about...

2. matt giraud - i think this guy definately deserves to be in the top 12, but why is he so in love justin timberlake? way over the top. haha. nah, it was good, though, it was a performance worth watching at least (very unlike most of all the other weekly performances so far).

ps - best line of the week:
paula - "simon, i'm still speaking..."
simon - "unfortunately."

3. megan joy corkrey - barf. so i guess she's gonna do that washing machine dance every single time huh? and doesn't it sound like she's just talking the whole song? if that's her "style" and her "range," no thank you. megan... is not the one for ME!!!

4. von smith - simon was right, he should've worn a hat. he looks like one of those little japanese cartoon boys that get embarrassed and have sweat drops drawn on their faces. either that or a monkichi. again, he can sing the chorus but not the verses, and that ain't good enough.

ps - man, paula realized she's got dial back the craziness with her future replacement sitting right next to her huh? she "studied" the way he sings? maybe a little creepy, but at least she's paying attention (*ahem* "your first song you were a little bit off, for your second song..." remember that?).

5. jasmine murray - so much better song choice, sung well enough (not great though). but i think she can go through, i think she should go through, i don't know why i want to root for her because i actually don't like her that much, but i think she would fit in well with this top 12 group. also... i realized why i didn't really like her from the beginning... she looks like one of my students! a very creepy little girl who has rhetts syndrome so all she does is stare and only babble and laugh creepily all day.

ps - simon just SLAP paula already!! damn!

6. ricky braddy - doesn't he look like a duck? again, so yes, he can sing very well, but do i want to listen to it? NO! too bad, so sad. oh well, guy, tough luck for you.

-commercial break-
HOLY CRAP WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT COMCAST COMMERCIAL!?!? THAT'S LIKE WHAT MY NIGHT TERRORS WOULD CONSIST OF COMPLETELY IF I HAD NIGHT TERRORS. SERIOUSLY, NEVERENDING TORTURE! THE HORRIFICNESS KEPT GOING AND GOING AND GOING! ARGH!

7. tatiana del toro - how can you not love tatiana? she's fantastic! just that opening clip. oh, but why is she singing the same song? so... i guess it's not an act and she really IS that crazy huh? poor girl, they're absolutely just playing around with her... i feel SO sorry for her now. oh man, these producers are evil. i really feel bad for her. aww, and she thinks she did good too.

ps - second greatest line of the week:
simon - "oh it doesn't matter."

8. anoop desai - yup, you gotta put him through, right? right.

i would've picked anoop, matt, and jasmine... let's see if i'm right.

-commercial break
THANK THE HEAVENS THERE WAS NO COMCAST COMMERCIAL DURING THAT BREAK.

wow, that was quick judging! i'm impressed actually. okay, they went with jasmine, fine. oh, wtf? megan AND jasmine? no way. and leave matt and anoop for the "who's it gonna be?" *drama pair* at the end? man, they should've picked BOTH matt and anoop. i would've picked pretty much everyone over megan, geez! i guess they needed more girls in the top 12. BOO to american idol for that stupid choice. also, BOO to american idol for going over time, poor everyone with their dvrs set to record they miss like the whole end.

!!

OH OOPS!!! haha, okay TOTALLY had me fooled! wow, for the very first time in idol history the fake-out worked on me (y'know, very much unlike paula's "i'm so sorry... that you have to see more of us, you made it!"). but, i'm very glad they did because man this season most of all needs an anoop in it right? no one else to like. so... here's my ranking for the top 13:

1. kris allen
2. danny gokey
3. lil rounds
4. matt giraud
5. allison iraheta
6. anoop desai
7. adam lambert
8. scott macintyre
9. jasmine murray
10. jorge nunez
11. alexis grace
12. danny sarver
13. megan joy corkrey

of course, if i was a smart man (which i am) i would know that my own personal preferences absolutely will NOT be the way this really goes so let's not put too much stock in this list. but we'll see what happens...

#224 - things i miss

i miss 8-bit.

well, it's been a week since i've been quarantined, i'm actually feeling a bit better, everything except the sleeping (lack of), but this morning i finished the prescription of antiviral medication so i hope i don't start un-healing now... but lookie what i got in the mail, a new project. hopefully i'll get to post some "cool" creations soon...

anyway, after one week of stopping everything i would normally do in a week (i could almost call it a vacation, maybe one of those vacations to south america where you get kidnapped and tortured by colombian drug lords who stick needles in your back all day and force you to stay awake for 7 nights straight because you accidentally stumbled into their weed farms or something) there are some things that i now miss, like:

- lying on my back
- the sun
- using the backs of chairs (to lean on)
- looking in the mirror without wanting to barf
- feeling not completely disgusting
- moving
- sleeping all the way through the night
- pain-free walks to the mailbox

yes, the simple pleasures. but i think i miss sleep most of all. perhaps that's what got me into this whole shingles thing in the first place. before i got it i was getting less and less sleep each night, partially because i had the hardest time falling asleep and partly because i'd keep waking up in the middle of the night. and now, since i can't lie on my back, i've been having an even harder time sleeping (i just can't sleep on my side, it doesn't work, plus, it's the opposite side from the one i would ever sleep on, which i don't anyway, i sleep on my back... because it makes you taller, ha). last night was actually the best night of sleep i've gotten and i woke up 3 times during the night... still, i was able to go to sleep a little after midnight and despite those three wake-ups i finally woke up at 10 am. it was great! hopefully tonight goes well too.

anyway, it's tuesday, that means it's time for the american idol post:

1. von smith - like many contestants this year, he had some good moments and some excrutiatingly average moments. like, i can see why they would put him through to this point, he can sing well, but is it something that you would vote for? no. i think a good gauge of whether or not someone actually has a great voice vs. a good voice is how they sing the verses. anyone can sing a big chorus section but i think that the verses of any song are the best (or should be the best) parts. this guy could only do the chorus, so he gets no vote.

2. taylor vaifanua - too bad, i liked this girl from the first auditions, but i don't think she can compete. she does mostly the right things, picked a cool song, sang it fairly well, but just not good enough. no vote.

3. alex wagner-trugman - actually kinda funny this guy. but his voice is too weak and i couldn't stand that growly thing he was trying to do, dumb. but it was entertaining because he was such a doofus. can't vote for him though.

4. arianna afsar - wow, i really can't tell from that song/performance whether she's great or very crappy. according to the judges = very crappy. and since i didn't know what to think, she does not get my vote.

5. ju'not joyner - i didn't like it. i think his voice is too weak. i especially don't like it when people sing slow songs and they have to take like a million breaths inbetween everything, it just didn't sound supported y'know? like you wanna tell him "take a breath!" or "sing louder!" decent, but it felt like he couldn't support any of the words right? no vote.

6. kristen mcnamara - huh, i liked it. she's got the kind of voice that i can listen to for awhile. i also really like that song (remember when jordin sparks sang it though? that was fantastic, this one = not as good). but, due to the lack of good people in this group, i think i'll vote for her.

7. natahaniel marshall - does he emulate a troll doll? does he wake up and look in the mirror and say, "today... troll doll hair! go!" and that's the best thing i can say about him. yikes. that performance was total horror. wow. yeesh. ps - simon is right on this year. i'm completely in line with everything he says, spot on. definately no vote.

8. felicia barton - hey i think she was really really pretty in her opening video clip, but then on stage she didn't look as good... hmm, maybe it was the unfortunate bangs. the song sounded really forced though. too bad, i wanted her to do well, but i guess there was a good reason why she got cut in the first place right? no vote.

9. scott macintyre - so, i would've been happy if this guy was really good and then we could see what idol would do with a blind contestant (i mean, how would they walk across the stage? do group numbers? do that stare into the camera at the end of the song pose? would he eventually fall off the stage at some point?). it would be fun to see... but, unfortunately, i don't think he's that good. i don't like his voice very much and i think he's kinda boring. everyone else is caught up in the whole he's-blind-thing they go easy on him, but he's not that great a singer. good enough, but he doesn't stand out from the great singers he's competing with. not good enough for me = no vote.

10. kendall beard - i hope she doesn't make it so i don't have to see her dad do that retarded "alligator dance." as for her performance... good singer, but painfully generic. no vote.

11. jorge nunez - well, they had to put SOMEONE through from puerto rico to justify going there for auditions right? i mean, someone besides tatiana (haha, she's so crazy! in a fun way... fun to watch i mean... fun to watch and laugh at i mean). okay okay, no he actually can sing pretty darn good, but he's kinda like that guy from the first group = really good singer, but i don't care to listen to them at all. so, too bad guy, you don't get my vote.

12. lil rounds - well, i wasn't as excited as the judges were (but i guess they had to make her seem super good after all the other junk performances right?), but compared to everyone else she wins hands down. don't you think the producers rigged the singing order though? i think they knew they had to get danny, emo-guy, and lil rounds into the top 12 so they put them last on each show (recency effect, y'know?). well, i don't blame them, think of it as getting a good seed in a tournament, they performed well in the past and are rewarded with a good draw, haha. anyway, vote!

so, i think that probably lil rounds, blind guy, and one of the other guys will make it (maybe the puerto rican guy?). but i actually hope that kristen mcnamara makes it, i don't know why.

so that's it with this year huh? i gotta say i'm very disappointed. i mean, i really liked pretty much everyone on the show last year so i guess it's hard to follow that up, but i really don't care for much anyone this year. i guess my favorites right now would be kris allen, danny gokey, allison iraheta and lil rounds (if she gets through), but really, i'm not that invested in any of them. oh well, just have to wait and see i guess.

but man, the guys are really dominating this year huh? what if there's 9 guys and only 3 girls in the top 12? well, i don't think that'll happen, the judges will stick at least one more girl in there, but i think that tonight it might be hard to get two girl through... oh and also, i guess there isn't going ge a wildcard "show" with everyone singing again, too bad i think. so i think the judges should pick:

1. matt giraud
2. anoop desai
3. anne marie boskovich (or possibly jackie tohn, for variety)

OR!! maybe instead we go with:

1. tatiana del toro
2. nathaniel marshall
3. norman gentle

just for kicks... haha, but we'll see...

ps - what's up with paula? how can she remember all these people singing all these songs but she can't complete a sentence in less than 30 seconds (or at all)?

pps - when these judges are all saying "show a different side" that's crap. why? because they're the only ones who have seen the first side! we didn't see any of that! so why should someone, who's coming out to sing for the first time (a whole 2 min song), do something different from what got them to this point? i mean, look at how many contestants totally tanked this year. i was shocked. i thought it was going to be pretty difficult to know who to vote for this year but it's been SO easy (when i even wanted to vote at all), i can't believe how many of them completely blew it. if this is your first time coming out on "live" tv to sing, make it like your very first audition again. why try to show something "new?" most people haven't seen you before at all!
