#316 - disaster!

on the heels of my last post "broken" this february has just turned out to be a disatrous month. first my poor car, then my health, and now my longboard......sigh... so here's what happened. there i was, surfing at haleiwa (my favorite spot because of water, the way the waves break, the short paddle out, and the great views), it was kind of a bigger day, at the very upper edge of what i'm comfortable with (which, in reality, is really not that big, but scary for me anyway since i'm a wuss) and so i was content to paddle far out and sit and wait in safety rather than fight the crowds and the whitewater closer to shore. i'd wait for some of the smaller (but still super clean) waves to roll in between the big sets and try and catch the leftovers that the better surfers didn't bother catching. so i caught a good one and was paddling back out, making sure to stay on the outside so i wouldn't get in anyone's way (i'm very conscious about that, until this day i hadn't gotten into any collisions). i saw some old guy on a huge board catch a wave way out in front of me and i was paddling more to the side so he'd have room to ride it past me. guess what, the guy wasn't looking, i know this because i was looking right at his face and he was NOT looking at me. so, of course, he plows into me with his big fat board. great. so i roll off my board so that i don't die and his board slides on top of mine, i didn't see exactly what happened because i was in "duck and cover" mode, and when i came back up to the surface i was just glad to be conscious. i saw the guy and said "sorry" (even though it was really his fault, HE was the one who was in control on the wave, i was just paddling back out to safety), he looked at me and asked me if i was okay once, at least he did that. i said i was and he got back on his board and paddled out again. i slowly got back up on my board and that's when i saw... THIS...
SO SAD! i mean, it's not like my board is brand new or anything, in fact, it's pretty awesomely old. on the brink of vintage, but far too beat up to be worth any real value. so it's got dings and dents, but man this is a whole chunk taken out of it. i guess when his board slid over mine his fin got jammed up the nose of my board and left this nice slash in it.
i couldn't believe how big it was (that's what she said, haha), i mean, i've bumped and dented the glass on my board before, but i didn't know it could get damaged like this so easily.
i was so sad look how many pictures i took of it! haha, so anyway, luckily i'm very smart and pretty handy so i went to the surf shop and bought a ding repair kit and i think i got it patched up pretty well with my homemade chemistry.
so now it looks like this...
not TOO bad right? i still gotta sand it down, but i dunno i kinda like it like that haha, or maybe i'm just lazy
but at least i guess i've kinda got a battle scar? i mean, the only real physical trauma that i've had in my life has been from surfing (i got cracked in the face with the tailblock of my own board and fractured some sinuses or something like that) so i guess this gives my board character? i dunno... something like that, if anything at least i've got a little story to tell now, right?

#315 - idol sucks

this is be my last idol post... why? because idol sucks. geez. i mean, i guess i was kinda crazy for my weekly (or even bi-weekly) idols postings the past few years, so it's time to stop doing that at least, hahaha. this year's idol just sucks ass. on the plus side, it has really reminded me why i listen to REAL singers and buy music from ACTUAL artists right?

i was gonna just try and do a "stand ups and melt downs" of the best/worst idol performances in my opinion, but even that ain't worth it. nope, it's better just to say nothing and let the show slowly fade into oblivion.

so yeah, no more idol posts... it's time to get on with real life, haha.
